Independent candidate presents detailed manifesto focusing on infrastructure, jobs, and clean city initiatives
KAMPALA - Eddie Bazira, independent candidate for Lord Mayor of Kampala, today unveiled his comprehensive manifesto detailing ambitious plans to transform Uganda's capital into a modern, clean, and prosperous smart city.
The 32-page document outlines concrete proposals across seven key priority areas, with a strong emphasis on modern infrastructure development, massive job creation, and establishing effective solid waste management systems.
"For too long, Kampala residents have paid taxes but received poor services in return," Bazira stated during the manifesto launch at City Hall. "Our city is choking with garbage, our roads are narrow and decaying, and our hardworking people deserve better. This manifesto presents real, practical solutions, not empty promises."
Key Highlights from the Manifesto:
Modern Infrastructure: Commitment to construct wider, proper roads with integrated underground utilities including storm drainage, sewer systems, and ICT infrastructure. Plans include expanding all existing roads and eliminating traffic gridlock through strategic infrastructure improvements.
Job Creation: A "Marshall Plan" approach to create over 1,000,000 well-paying jobs within two years through infrastructure projects, solid waste management systems, affordable housing construction, and public transit development.
Solid Waste Management: Launch of a comprehensive system with twice-weekly garbage collection, recycling programs, and the creation of 200,000 jobs in waste management alone.
Zero Tolerance to Corruption: Implementation of forensic life audits for all senior city officials, transparent procurement processes, and monthly televised town hall meetings for public accountability.
Affordable Housing: Major construction program to resettle slum dwellers and eventually eliminate slums from Kampala, creating over 100,000 construction jobs annually.
Bazira, who has lived in Sweden for over 25 years, brings international experience in city management and social services. "Having seen what well-managed cities can achieve, I know Kampala can become the cleanest, most prosperous city in the region," he said.
The independent candidate emphasized that his administration would prioritize services for all residents, not just the privileged few in affluent neighborhoods. "We will bring quality services to every division of Kampala - from Katanga to Bwaise, from Luzira to Nakulabye," Bazira pledged.
Community leaders and residents expressed optimism about the detailed plans. "Finally, we have a candidate with specific, measurable solutions rather than vague promises," said one Kawempe division resident who attended the launch.
The manifesto is available for public review on Bazira's campaign website, with the candidate inviting feedback and suggestions from all Kampala residents.
