Bazira Promises Zero Tolerance to Corruption in Kampala City Council

Independent candidate commits to forensic audits and transparent governance to restore public trust

KAMPALA - Eddie Bazira, independent candidate for Lord Mayor, today announced a comprehensive anti-corruption platform that includes forensic life audits for all senior city officials, transparent procurement processes, and zero tolerance for corruption in Kampala City Council Authority (KCCA).

"Right from the day of inauguration, there shall be – as an official Kampala City policy – ZERO TOLERANCE to corruption, ineptitude, waste and inefficiency," Bazira declared during a press conference at the campaign headquarters.

Key Anti-Corruption Measures:

Forensic Life Audits: The Lord Mayor, Deputy Lord Mayor, City Executive Officers and other senior City officials will be subjected to annual forensic life audits. Anyone found to have acquired illicit wealth shall resign or be fired and prosecuted to the full extent of the law.

Transparent Procurement: The procurement system will be open to public scrutiny 24 hours a day, with no person serving in the procurement department for more than one year to prevent entrenched corruption networks.

No Criminal Records: No person or entity with criminal records, pending criminal cases, or credibility questions from public audits will be employed by KCCA.

24-Hour Reporting: Establishment of toll-free telephone numbers for reporting corruption, economic crimes, and security issues, with guaranteed protection for whistleblowers.

Monthly Town Hall Meetings: Bazira committed to holding monthly extraordinary, unrestricted and televised live Town Hall meetings with residents from all divisions to ensure continuous public accountability.

"The people of Kampala have been paying taxes but seeing little in return. Billions of shillings disappear into the pockets of corrupt officials while our city chokes with garbage and our infrastructure decays," Bazira stated. "This ends with my administration."

The candidate emphasized that there would be "no sacred cows" in his administration, with everyone held accountable regardless of political connections or social status.

Bazira also pledged full cooperation with the Office of the Auditor General, Criminal Investigations Department, and independent forensic audit firms to ensure comprehensive oversight of all city departments.

"We will trace, locate, seize, repatriate and restore stolen public resources and assets back to their rightful owners: The People of Kampala," he affirmed.

Good governance advocates welcomed the proposals. "These are exactly the kind of concrete measures we need to restore public trust in city government," said a representative from the Transparency International Uganda chapter.

Bazira concluded by challenging other candidates to match his anti-corruption commitments, stating: "The people deserve to know where every candidate stands on this fundamental issue of governance."
