Building a Foundation for Kampala's Future: Modern Infrastructure
Kampala's infrastructure is in a state of decay, with narrow, poorly constructed roads that are rarely maintained. Our city deserves better. I am committed to transforming Kampala's infrastructure to support economic growth and improve the quality of life for all residents.
The Plan
1. Construct more, wider and proper roads and streets throughout the city
- Solve traffic gridlock through construction of more and wider roads
- Eradicate roundabouts and install additional traffic lights
- Expand the width of all existing roads and streets to reduce accidents and provide space for commuters, cyclists and pedestrians
- Use international best practices in road construction with storm drainage and sewer systems beneath each road
2. Rehabilitate decaying city infrastructure
- Overhaul and revitalize the planning department with professional, competent staff
- Institute comprehensive inspection of all city infrastructure
- Audit all buildings before and after construction
- Set strict standards for building permits and quality control
3. Establish a functioning Maintenance Department
- Construct, repair and maintain modern sewerage systems
- Build, repair and maintain modern storm drainage systems
- Construct modern water reservoirs, cleaning and recycling systems
- Maintain and repair wide city roads
- Construct well-resourced fire stations in all residential estates across all five divisions
- Repair all city buildings and paint city properties regularly
4. Integrated underground utilities
- Ensure power, ICT and clean water supply are installed beneath roads during construction
- Prevent quick deterioration of roads by including essential infrastructure during initial construction
These infrastructural developments will create training opportunities and at least 50,000 well-paying jobs for youths and engineers per year, starting from 2026.
